Picturing the Constitution

“Those who would renegotiate the boundaries between church and state must therefore answer a difficult question: why would we trade a system that has served us so well for one that has served others so poorly?”
                                                                                                                          Sandra Day O'Conner

I wanked out into a field in Damariscotta, Maine...and looking back, I saw the picture that tells the constitution.  I saw the boundaries between Church and State.  I also saw how both of them stand in the middle of God's creation for which there can be no separation.  Or, dare I venture that the separation of the State from the created order, instead of being its steward, may threaten us as much as the imposition of state religion.  We can be political atheists in denying that we have any relationship at all to a created order, its resources, and responsibility to pass on what we have so freely received.
