The Power of ONE

The Power of One Solitary Life

How often do we discount ourselves?  And little wonder as we walk off into a world of machines and apps--of course we are into finding ourselves with the "daily me" of facebook.

Check out the deeply moving novel The Power of One or get the DVD.  The saga of this kid is amazing who grows up in in the apartheid of South Africa to be himself--and in so doing--he breaks out of the system. Just the power of one does it?  No--the belief in oneself does not have to change the world, but it can change your world.

This poem hits the theme marvelously.  Can we offer the power of the one person who offers some of these gifts for the world?

One SONG can spark a moment
One FLOWER can wake the dream
One TREE can start a forest
One BIRD can herald spring
One SMILE begins a friendship
One HANDCLASP lifts a soul
One STAR can guide a ship at sea
One WORD can frame the goal
One VOTE can change a nation
One SUNBEAM lights a room
One CANDLE wipes out darkness
One LAUGH will conquer gloom
One STEP must start each journey
One WORD must start a prayer
One HOPE will raise our spirits
One TOUCH can show you care
One VOICE can speak with wisdom
One HEART can know what is true
One LIFE can make a difference
You see, it is up to YOU.

I just wonder....

Do you think the power of one, by being ourselves, goes back to that well-known saying about the "one solitary life" of Jesus? Or that being ourselves is being the one God created us to be?

Nineteen wide centuries have come and gone, and today he is the centerpiece of the human race and the leader of all human progress. I am well within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever were built, all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has this one solitary personality
