The VISION Thing

New Yorker Cartoon
(adapted)

A wife finally confronts her husband to take care of the clutter in the house. Finally, he says: "Look dear, nothing ever gets done in an election year!"

She sees clutter.
He sees treasure.
It all comes down to vision!

The question is this--
How do we share our particular vision with another person?  This is not easy given our differences in perception.

The other way to say it is--
Men see things from Mars
and
Women see things from Venus.

John Gray gave us that vision thing in his best seller about differences in how men and women communicate with each other--his book, Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus.
I have always wanted to add a third section--But Do They Give a Damn?   That strong expletive is important!  Do they spend their time trying to persuade the other that their vision is the right one?

Or, is it just a matter of caring enough to try first and foremost to see things as the other person does?  There's a new thought.  If you take a step toward the other person first, isn't it true that the other person is more willing to step toward you?

Love is not to look at each other.
Love looks in the same direction.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

It begins by taking the first step to see the world as the person sees it.
